Designing Your Perfect Smile
By Guest Blogger Allanna Barringer Ivy, RDH

One of the most exciting experiences of my  career in dentistry is the opportunity to help our patients achieve their perfect smile. So many patients have a very clear vision of their perfect smile, but they have difficulty describing it exactly as they see it in their minds.  But now, through the digital “magic” of Smile Design software, we can show our patients an almost identical image of how they will look with the special smile they have always sought for themselves.

Smiles galore

We maintain a beautiful photo library of smiles. These images of naturally gorgeous and brilliantly bright smiles provide numerous examples of all sizes, shapes, and colors of teeth. Any patient who has made the decision to enhance their personal appearance with a perfect new smile, but is seeking to further define it and bring it to reality, will find Smile Design to be just the right tool! If they don’t see a matching smile in our library, we can also work from the photo of someone else whose smile they admire. By using this image-altering software, we can literally place the new smile in the photo of our patient and show them, with great accuracy, what they would look like – how their face would appear – with that smile. It’s not an exact science, but it’s a closer image than we have been able to achieve ever before.

The steps to your perfect smile

Once we have the image of the patient with the new smile, the next part of the process is to determine, step-by-step, the specific changes that need to be made in order to accomplish that natural look. The steps may include cleaning, whitening, the placement of porcelain veneers or tooth-colored fillings, periodontal work, or even orthodontics. We will prepare a customized presentation detailing each piece of work that will be necessary to achieve the smile, with the related investment amount. Options will be provided, and each smile may be financed with the CareCredit program which has recently extended its credit line. Special courtesy discounts may also be offered,  based upon the scope of the work and our patient’s specific situation.

We have completed several Smile Designs for our patients since we introduced the program earlier this summer. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. We look forward to seeing your perfect smile on your beautiful face! Please call us or email me at abarringer@tarheeldentist.com to find out more about this exciting new software.
