Lasers in Dentistry
While we know that lasers have revolutionized virtually every aspect of our modern life, you may not be aware of how laser technology has changed the way dentists care for our patients. Compared to more traditional methods and surgical devices that are used to cut tissue, the laser is gentler, more predictable and often does not require a local anesthetic. The lasers we use generally cause little to no discomfort, and promote more rapid healing. They also minimize bleeding because the high-energy light beam aids in the clotting of exposed blood vessels. One of the lasers we use in every preventive examination is in our cavity detector. This handy device provides a reading of the by-products caused by tooth decay. A reading of over 10 lets us know we have an area of concern in that specific tooth.
Several Uses
Lasers can be used to remove a small piece of tissue should a biopsy be required for examination to rule out oral cancer. Lasers are also used to remove lesions in the mouth and relieve the discomfort of canker sores. Lasers are the most important component in our ZOOM Tooth Whitening System – the bleaching solution applied to the tooth surface is activated by the laser energy to accelerate the whitening process. Please let us show you how we use laser technology to make your next visit as comfortable, efficient and stress-free as possible!
