"How I spent my birthday at Dr. Hyman's office" by a guest blogger
I have been Dr. Hyman’s patient since I moved to Greensboro seven years ago. My old dentist always just breezed in at the end of my appointment and told me my teeth looked great. Dr. Hyman, on the other hand, spent a good half hour with me on my first appointment to find out my objectives for my dental health and showed me himself, with the intraoral camera by Digital Doc, where I had crumbling old metal cavities and some other areas of concern. He didn’t limit my options for treatment to my minimal dental insurance coverage. He showed me on live video exactly what was going on in my mouth and explained how I could attain optimal oral health through prevention and treatment. He even convinced me to start flossing!
Happy Birthday Crown
This week I visited the practice because I broke a crown. I was pleased to be scheduled in quickly, and, ironically, on my birthday! Dr. Hyman’s birthday is four days before mine so all the decorations were still up and the staff told me they kept them there just for me! Tina and Meredith were assisting Dr. Hyman with my case and I felt doubly cared for. Meredith just joined the practice after completing dental assistant school. She rotated through the practice as part of her training at GTCC and was such a stand-out student that Dr. Hyman hired her. As Tina checked Meredith's work every step of the way and carefully explained each process, it was clear to me why Tina is such a successful continuing education speaker who trains dental assistants at conferences across the nation. The level of professionalism of every member of the team is incomparable.
One hour - start to finish with CEREC!
The best part of this birthday visit, aside from all the fuss everyone made about my birthday, was that the big hole was filled in with a beautiful ceramic crown, designed, milled and fitted to my mouth in just about an hour with the high tech CEREC CAD/CAM system! It felt like it had always been there, and thanks to Dr. Hyman’s gentle touch and skill with needles, I honestly felt no discomfort at any point during the procedure. So, while it wasn’t necessarily my first choice to spend time on my birthday, getting a new crown at Dr. Hyman’s office was quite life- affirming since I want to keep my teeth for another 54 years-- and with his help, I’m certain I will
